The Christmas season is well under way, and BYU Athletics came out swinging and singing this year to celebrate the occasion.
Student athletes from many of the teams at BYU got together early this month to spread some Christmas cheer by caroling to the people of Provo.
Members of each sport were given assignments from the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to sing Christmas carols to folks in Utah County. Their singing also came with goodies for their audiences, including chocolate cinnamon bears and BYU flags.
“Caroling as a team was a super awesome experience,” said Hailey Morrow, a member of SAAC on the softball team. “It gave us a chance to connect with the community, spread joy, and bond with teammates in a unique way outside of our sport.”

Many student-athletes discovered new connections through this opportunity. For Ellie Boyer on the swim and dive team, the assisted living facility they sang at was right across from her house.
“It was super sweet, and we had a ton of fun!” Ellie said. “We were able to hand out some Christmas presents to all of the residents and share a couple experiences and stories with them. Overall, it was the sweetest day and we all had a great time!”
Georgi Brown, a member of the Built4Life Student Athlete Center staff, got to join the swim and dive team. Georgi’s mom used to live at the assisted living facility they visited before she passed.
“I loved being there and really appreciated the swim team taking time out of their busy Saturday to come sing,” Georgi said. “I just imagine groups coming there when my mom was alive, and it bought me so much joy to go back and see some of the residents and workers who were around when my mom was there.”
The SAAC will begin planning next year’s activities in the coming weeks.
