Student Mentors
If you're a freshman or transfer athlete, you might have some concerns about your workload. Balancing both school and sports can be challenging, especially when you're still unfamiliar with the schedule. Fortunately, the Built4Life center will provide you with a student mentor, someone who's already an expert at navigating BYU.
Your mentor will help you with two important tasks: organizing your classwork and staying accountable to your goals. They're also a great resource for discovering other means of help across campus, including finding other tutors. You'll be required to meet with your mentor one-on-one at least once a week for your first academic year, so be prepared to see them often.
Expect your mentor to meet with you about:
- Setting achievable academic goals
- Developing a plan for upcoming deadlines and assignments
- Reviewing the progress of previous goals
- Managing time effectively and prioritizing specific tasks
- Identifying potential conflicts between academic and athletic commitments, and addressing those issues
- Making time for well-being, including stress and self-care strategies
- Accessing Built4Life Center and campus resources
Your student mentor will set up meetings with you through text. You won't need to initiate anything on your own. Come prepared to your meetings with questions. We hope you're as excited to meet your mentor as they are to meet you!
